Pantelis N. Mikropoulos is Professor of High Voltage Engineering at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), Thessaloniki, Greece.  He was born in Kavala, Greece in 1967. He received the Diploma and Ph.D. degrees in electrical and computer engineering from AUTh in 1991 and 1995, respectively. He held postdoctoral positions at the University of Manchester, Manchester, U.K. (1997 -1999) and at AUTh (2000-2001). He was senior engineer with Public Power Corporation SA, Greece (2000-2001) and Assistant Professor with Technological Educational Institute of Crete (2001-2003). In 2003, he joined AUTh where, since 2005, he has been the Director of the High Voltage Laboratory. He served as Head of the Department of Electrical Energy (2010/2011 and 2013/2014) and Vice-Chairman of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (2011/2013).

He teaches four undergraduate and two postgraduate courses in High Voltage Engineering. His research interests include the broad area of high voltage engineering with emphasis given to dielectric strength of external insulation, air and surface discharges, lightning protection and earthing, insulation coordination for power systems, electrostatic field analysis, high voltage and high current measurement devices and techniques. Within this field of research he has supervised a number of PhD and Diploma Theses and coordinated several research projects.

Dr. Mikropoulos has authored or coauthored more than 90 scientific publications in journals and conference proceedings. Since 2008 he has been a member of the Editorial Board for the journal IET Sci. Meas. Technol. He serves as a reviewer in several international journals and conferences. He was awarded a postdoctoral Scholarship from the Greek State Scholarship Foundation (2001), the ISH ‘99 Hydro – Quebec prize paper award (1999) and a postdoctoral contract (EPSRC 1997).

He is a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece, IET, IEEE (SM’10), CIGRE and of the Steering Committee of the International UPEC.
