Dimitris Kugiumtzis has BSc in Mathematics at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), MSc and PhD at the Department of Informatics, University of Oslo, and he is Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, AUTh, since September 2013. He was Assistant and Associate Professor at the Department of Mathematical, Physical and Computational Sciences, AUTh (2001-2013), Lecturer B at the Department of Statistics, University of Glasgow, UK (2000-2001), guest scientist (PostDoc) at the Max-Planck-Institute for Physics of Complex Systems, Dresden, Germany (1998-1999), and research associate at the State Center for Epilepsy, Norway (1997).

His main research area is time series analysis in conjunction with dynamical systems and chaos, as well as computational statistics and data mining. His current research activity is focused on complex correlation and causality networks from multi-variate time series. Applications of the methodology he develops extend from neurophysiology to geophysics and finance. He has participated in a number of funded research projects and to-date he is co-ordinating a national research program (Aristeia II) and participates in two other national research programs. He has organized a number of sessions in international conferences and participated in over 40 international and 20 national conferences, in some of these giving invited talks. He has published over 40 journal papers and many national and international proceedings papers and has h-index=12 (Web of Science). He has acted as evaluator in European and national research programs, and he is regular referee for many international journals. He supervised 4 completed PhD theses, 3 others are in progress, and many MSc theses. He teaches a number of under-graduate courses in Statistics at the Faculty of Engineering, AUTh, and post-graduate courses on statistics, time series analysis, data analysis, econophysics, and complex networks at the Dept of Civil Engineering, Dept of Mathematics and Dept of Physics, all at AUTh.
