Papanikolaou_GeorgeGeorge Papanikolaou was born in Gorlitz, Poland, in 1951. In 1974 he received a BSc in Telecommunications and Electronics from the Technical University of Gdansk.  In 1975 he received his MSc in Electroacoustics from same University. In 1978 he received a Ph.D. in Electroacoustics from Dept. of Sound Engineering, Technical University of Gdansk.

From 1976 he worked as lecturer in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece and from 1992 he is Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering, as well as in the Dept. of Musical Science and the Dept. of Journalism and Mass Media at the same University.

His current field of interests includes room acoustics, electroacoustics, noise and vibration analysis, multi-channel 3D audio recording / reproduction systems, audio-video signal processing, musical acoustics, psychoacoustics, bioacoustics, radio & television systems, distance learning technology, High Definition transmission over broadband IP.

He is a member of Audio Engineering Society (AES), Acoustical Society of America (ASA), Hellenic Institute of Acoustics (ELINA) and American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
