Clouvas Alexandros was born in Alexandria, Egypt on March 15, 1955.

He received his degree in Physics in 1979 from the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of the University of Athens. In 1980 he received the Diplome d’ Etudes Approfondies (DEA) from the University of CLAUDE BERNARD, LYON-1 (France) in the field of applications of nuclear methods in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Medicine. In 1982 he received his Doctorat Troisieme Cycle from the same university in Atomic and Nuclear Physics and in 1985 he received the Doctorat d’Etat es Sciences. At the same time, from 1981 to 1984, he was an  associate assistant at the same university (CLAUDE BERNARD, LYON-1). In 1984-1985 he worked as a visiting researcher at the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the University of Frankfurt.

Since January 1986 he has been working at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where he has held the position of Professor since 2002. He teaches the following courses in the undergraduate program

a) Introduction to the Applications of Nuclear Technology

b) Theory and Technology of Nuclear Reactors (co-teaching with the lecturer Mrs. S. Kadis)

c) Nuclear Technology in the Department of Chemical Engineering.


He is also the teacher of 2 courses of the postgraduate study program. At the same time he conducts basic and applied research. His research work is experimental and most of it can be included in the following  research objects:

A) Interaction of radiation with matter with emphasis on the secondary emission of electrons from solids during their bombardment with fast ions..

B) Environmental Radioactivity

C) Metrology of radiation measurement systems

D)  Study of subcritical nuclear devices


He has supervised 7 doctoral dissertations. He was “rapporteur” in 3 French doctoral dissertations and a French Habilitation.  He was president of the examination committee of a PhD thesis in UPC (Catalunya ,Spain) He was an examiner in several doctorates that took place in Greece or abroad. He is the Director of the Nuclear Technology Laboratory. He was the National Representative in the European Union in the EURATOM Fission Program. He is a reviewer in 8 international scientific journals. He has received scholarships from France (CNRS IN2P3), Germany (DAAD), and from the International Atomic Energy Agency. He participates in the international network of ALMERA laboratories under the auspices of the International Atomic Energy Agency to deal with radiological events worldwide. He is a member as “specialist in in situ gamma-spectroscopy” at EURADOS (European Radiation Dosimetry Group). He is a member of the Environmental Council of AUTh. He is the chairman of a committee for the recognition of radiation protection experts (excluding medical ).  He was  member in the scientific committee  of international conferences .

He was scientific responsible  of  more than 20 research projects. He has published 89 papers in  international scientific journals. There are over 1000 references in his published work: Web of Science h-index 21, Google Scholar h-index 27.
